During my long holidays, I would always tag along with my parents to Sydney, Australia, since my dad often went there for business trips. While we were there, we never failed to pay a visit to the Sydney Underwater Aquarium with every opportunity we had.

Beautiful canals, gorgeous art collections, impressive canal-side houses, the Kalverstraat, the Jordaan, the Vondelpark and the Rembrandtplein. Who doesn’t know Amsterdam? But there’s still a lot more to discover: museums, neighborhoods, and shops. In the hospitable and colorful Amsterdam, there are countless world cultures present. You can see that in the art and culture, the multicultural shop offers, and the many restaurants. The 17th century atmosphere of the canals and the monumental environment forms the scenery of a true metropolis. The historical scenery and the dynamic of a trendy metropolis go together very well.

Museum: Boredom & Old? Not always!

Museum: Boredom & Old? Not always!

Location: 580 High Street, Dedham, MA, USA
Website: www.glyphs.com/moba/

What is the first thought that strikes your mind when the word museum is mentioned in a sentence? Actually, what is your idea of a museum in the first place?

Recently I raised these questions in a few conversations, and the unanimous answers were ‘boredom’, ‘arts’, ‘old’, and ‘waste of money’. Of course the answers changed completely after I revealed to these…what should I say…”test-subjects” a list of museums that are only one-of-the-kind.

Good arts go into museums, but what about the bad arts? The answer is, more than likely they also go into a museum. No, I am not kidding. When I said ‘a museum’, I really mean it.

Founded in 1993, The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) is a community-based, private institution. Originally it was based in the basement of a private home in the same city, but what began as a small collection soon grew so large (indicating that there are so many talented artists out there), the museum had to be moved. Its current location is just eight miles south of Boston, in the basement of the 1927 Dedham Community Theatre, where it can house many more of America’s, and possibly the world’s, worst pieces of art. Believe it or not, its finest pieces were found not at some cheap two-dollar shops, but rather at the smelliest dumps and dirtiest bins.
